Progress Report & Parent-Teacher Conference

In the blink of an eye, it has been almost half a year since I started school.
School progress reports were doled out today. And next Friday, Mummy's due for a conference with Aunties N and RZ about my development in school.

Here's what my report said, in short -
- cheerful, bubbly and well-behaved
- participates actively in class activities
- attentive and responsive during lessons
- enjoys music and movement activities and story-telling
- loves make-believe play when we have dramatic activities
- helpful towards her teachers and peers
- interacts and plays well with her friends

Edited on 15 May to add: At PTC, Mummy was proud to hear my teachers say that I was such a joy to have in class, setting an example of acceptance of all my classmates through being extra caring and helpful to whoever was in need at the time.

Mummy and Daddy are just glad that I've adjusted well to being in school and socialising with other kids my age.

The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round!

Big girl on the bus at last!
For the past (nearly!) half year, I've not exactly been cooperative in going to school on the school bus. My demands are simple - gong gong must drive me to school, watch me put my bag, water bottle notebook etc in the slots and then settle down before I dismiss him with a hug and say, "Thanks gonggong, you can go now."

Going home from school is a different story though. I'm perfectly alright riding in the bus all the way home, knowing that mama will be waiting there for me!

Yesterday, I made the slip of promising Aunty N in school that I'd take the bus on my own to school from today on. I'm a girl of my word, so here goes nothing -

Mummy, Daddy, gonggong and mama are all ever so proud of my new found independence - that they've been heaping the praises and raining hugs and kisses on me all day long. Guess I'm a big girl afterall!

In other news - Daddy has promised me my very own sexybom! (see previous post) Just for riding on the bus - Woohoo!

And so I went for almost an entire week, every afternoon, I'd be asking mama for one.
Sob... mama did not seem to be able to figure out what on earth a "sexybom" was.

Thank goodness Mummy came to my rescue - with her professionally-honed child interrogation technique. The adults finally figured out what I wanted - no prizes for guessing - as I told Mummy - "It's a musical instrument, Mummy. Oh, and I want a trumpet too!" :)

School Excursion 1

To cap off a term of lessons, activities, songs and games around the central theme of Fruits - Aunty N and Aunty R organized a class trip for us kiddies to the Pasir Panjang Wholesale Centre and West Coast Park!

My favourite part of the trip was going into the coldroom where the freshly shipped fruit were stored. Brrr...

Mummy took the day off work to chaperone me on the outing. I was glad to be holding hands with my best friend M throughout the outing. That's what BFFs are for - aren't we schweet?

Time for a class picture - as Mummy will attest, it's not easy to get a bunch of sub-3 year olds to pose simultaneously for a picture!

In other news, it's Dress Up Day in school today - mama has got me dolled up as a nyonya, complete with the sarong skirt she's sewn up for me. Hmmm....wonder if she's cooking up some of her delish buah keluak for dinner as well?

Don't mistake anyone in my family for fans of a similar show on Channel 8 either. None of us has ever caught even 5 minutes of it inspite of all the hype! Mummy swears that just the hype alone is cringe-worthy without having to watch the show as well.

All too soon, I'm turning 3!

It's a special birthday for me, as I've never celebrated it with my friends at school before!

Before this, I've always ever celebrated it with the adults around me. I think it's a Grrreeeat Day! I've been busy helping mummy rustle up some goodie bags for my friends. It's filled with treats like - stickers, snacks, tiny toys! I felt like the star of the day - handing out the goodie bags to my friends. I hope they like what they get inside!

Psst... I've got 2 cakes this year, one for my mates in school and one (martini-spiked one) for the ol' folks at home.

Mummy's feable attempt at disguising the lychee cake with my Dora figurines on top certainly did not escape my notice. Heh!

So this year, we're not celebrating CNY in a BIG way - as a mark of respect for my ah zhor's (on ah gong's side) passing in Nov '07. It's no angpows from Mum and Dad to others, but apparantly ok for me to receive them when doled out by others. Hence, morning of CNY finds Mum, Dad and I lounging lazily around the house. Dad's testing out his camera -cheese!

So, mummy's been meaning to check this place out and finally got down to it.

Nothing as fancy as the Bambini outlet we've been to a couple of times, but this place was cheap according to mummy. So it didn't take much persuasion for her to buy a Playcard for 6 sessions of play!

I'm great on all the obstacles 'cept for the BIG kid chute... oooh.. that was scary... Mummy was tricky enough to get me to slide down it once.

A new year, a new beginning! And big girls go to school.

Do I hear a collective sigh of relief from gonggong, mama, daddy and mummy? Everyone figured that I needed an outlet for my boundless energy, otherwise I would soon be bouncing off the walls at home.

Daddy, gonggong and mama were with me on Days 1 and 2. See, here I am on Day 1, nicely settled in during the snack break.

After a weekend, today is my 3rd day attending big girl school.

I'm so glad mummy was able to take the day off work to be with me on Day 3!

Baby E's First Month

The day started off bright and scorching! Oooh! HoT!

After sleeping in and lazing around all morning, we set off to visit Ah Ma and walk around abit. Then we went home to rest, and I soon settled down for a nap. ZzzzZZ...

It was evening when I woke, still feeling a little groggy from my sleep hangover, Mama dressed me up and plaited my hair, while I struggled and kicked up a fuss over being fussed over! Heh! :P

Pa, Mummy and I then set off for Baby E's 1st month party! Mummy told me I was going to meet many gor gors and jie jies there! That got me all excited and then, O couldn't wait to leave for the party!

Lately, Mummy's been posing questions to me. Everytime we talk about something, she tries to model and ask me questions like, "where is it?" or "why?" etc. Think she may be doing this in an effort to encourage an enquiring mind.

For the past few days, I've been asking for my things with words like, "Where are you?".

She was so pleased with me last night, when I started to ask her, "How come ... Mummy?"

It's the school holidays and Mummy and I are taking Gonggong and Mama to catch the movie 881.

Hmmmm... strange movie, with bright lights, glittery costumes and wild dancing and songs in a language I cannot seem to figure out!!

Although I didnt understand a thing of what was going on (which was a good thing according to Mummy!), I really enjoyed bopping up and down, and clapping along to the songs.
What was especially fun was digging into the carton and grabbing fistfuls of popcorn and trying to stuff them alternately into Gonggong's, Mama's and Mummy's mouths throughout the entire movie (at least during the times there was no singing and dancing).

Wondering if I'll get to catch a kiddie movie soon...

Sweet Eighteen!

Today I turn 18 months old!
Yeah... that's right, Mummy says, in the blink of an eye, I'm all of 1 and a half years old!

Guess know Mum and Dad chose to commemorate this special occasion?
Weeeell.. they decided to enter me in a Baby Show!

A while back, Mummy received a letter from the Telok Blangah CC inviting us to join in the show, which Mummy promptly put away, thinking nothing of it.
Then, the other day, while tidying up her stuff, Mummy chanced upon the letter again and saw that the show would be on my 18months birthday! So she suggested to Daddy to enter me in it, just for the fun of it all! :)

And so, I had to be woken up really early this morning, fed breakfast while my eyes were still bleary, bathed, powdered and dressed up etc. Needless to say, by the time I got to the CC, I wasn't in the best of moods! Feeling uncooperative and grouchy, I was only mildly amused by the free balloons and strange-looking clown.

Mummy told Daddy then that my chances were really slim since I wasn't displaying my usual grins and giggles despite being amongst so many other little kiddies in the great big hall! The entire place was sooo full of babies, there must have been at least a hundred of them!! Mummy even met some of her Pri and Sec school classmates who are mummies themselves now, and was glad to be able to catch up with her long-lost school mates.

Then my turn for judging came, I attempted to impress the nice lady doctor by walking into the room while wheezing in to my Winnie the Pooh trumpet. I have to admit, I was feeling very shy in front of a stranger at first. After some questions and pointing out Daddy, Mummy and myself to the doctor as requested, I waved her goodbye, with loud smacks from my hand-to-air kisses accompanied by "Mwuah, mwuah, mwuah!".

We then headed back out for the adults to have breakfast at the nearby hawker centre. It was back to the great baby-filled hall again to await the results.

Guess what??!! When Aunty Esther announced the consolation prize winners of Category B, my name was first to be called, "B16, Little Ern!!"
Daddy had to carry me up on stage to receive the prize and take pictures with MP Lim.

Er.... At least, that's what Mummy told me when I woke up in the car. Kekekee....
You see, I was woken up so early this morning to prep up that, by the time the adults finished breakfast and returned for the results, I was already merrily snoozing away on Daddy's shoulders. So, all I've got now is a photo of me asleep onstage with the Minister.

When I got home, Mummy wasted no time rummaging through the goody bag and making me pose with the very teeny, tiny trophy. My first TROPHY!!

After chillin' the afternoon away at home, we headed out to GWC for a warm family dinner. That just about wraps up a lovely, unexpectedly commemorative 18-month birthday celebration for me!

Mummy's been really busy at work, plus when she gets home, she hardly has time to rest as I've just got such a lot of energy!! Heh heh!

So, apart from going out on our weekly grocery trips to the supermarket these past couple weeks, things have really not been too happening for me!

I've been extra grouchy all weekend with a slight low grade fever to boot... guess it's about time that No 9 and 10 reported for duty.

I even bit on poor Muumy and drew blood! Ouch!

Last swimming lesson

Well.. after 8 weeks of swimming lessons, I must say our last lesson no. 9 was really quite a big WASHOUT!!

Boohoo... it was a lesson which never happened. It rained and poured all morning, which prompted Mummy M and Mummy K not to have their babies Jav and Dex show up for the lesson. :(
Only Mummy S and baby Jay made their way all the way down from the east side to show up at the pool.

Unfortunately, the drizzle prevailed and both our mummies decided to opt out of the last lesson too. So it was just baby Jay and myself left to sit by the sidelines (er.. despite my numerous attempts to give him the shove, kekeke :P ), watching the rain, all forlorn.

Well, here it is...
The long-awaited gathering with my March baby friends. Mummy's looking forward to it because it's been a long time since she's met up with the other mummies. Especially since we were noticeably absent at the last gathering due to my bout of sniffles.

As you can see, I had a BALL of a time, thanks to Aunty K who brought along a huge basket of colourful balls and organised some ball snatching game! YAY!! I had a really fun time playing with the other babies' toys while they played with mine too! So FUN! My First Family Vacation

So now that I'm quite a proficient walker, Mummy and Papa agree that its time for us to take a family vacation. Mummy says, it's not really anywhere fancy, just Genting and KL for a start. This is my chance to prove how travel-worthy I am!!

We set off early on Thursday morning to pick dear Ah Ma up and headed to the bus pick up after that.

The vacation though fun, was marred by Mummy falling gravely ill. She even had tovisit a doctor in KL! Poor Mummy!
We met up with Grand Uncle Rabbit, who lives in KL. He took us round and round KL and brought us to Mama's favourite Yong Tau Foo stall and his favourite Claypot Rice place. Hmmmmm... I still wonder what all the fuss about the food is about?
Papa, for our next vacation, can I take a trip on my favourite JayJay the Jetplane, please?

Today, I met up with baby Josh cos his mummy Aunty J has arranged for us to trial a class at Kindermusik together!

It would seem that I had great fun! But the lesson went downhill after Mummy took those pictures of me warming up.

Hmmm... where should I begin? I basically started to fuss and be a grouch as the lesson progressed. Mostly cos I spied Mama walking out the front door and going down the escalator just outside the school. I panicked and started screaming and clamouring for the door... Think I preferred to watch the other babies having fun from the outside of the glass door throughout the whole lesson. In the end, Mummy only managed to persuade me to return to the class and try out the various drums which the teacher brought out during a certain segment of the class. Baby Josh on the other hand, seemed to enjoy himself thoroughly!

Mummy, I dont think I'm quite ready for this Kindermusik class yet, do you?

Swim Trial

I enjoyed myself for the most part at the swim trial with my friends. Too bad Papa couldnt be there as he was still in camp.

Well, the swim trial started off with a blast, but kind of ended up with me gasping and coughing away as I had accidentally taken in some of the pool water.

Hope Mummy and Papa decide to let me continue with lessons though!

Aunty Per has organised a trial for swimming lessons next Sunday. Mummy says she'd like me to join in as its just a stone's throw away from our place.
Yep, you heard right! The trial's next week, but Aunty Sweetpea and the other mummies suggested that I should have a mini trial of my own at my leisure before the actual swim trial, just so I'd be used to the water and not freak out on the actual day.
So, Papa's decided to take me out to the pool for an immersion...

So this was my day at the pool. I took like a fish to water!

Life with No Borders
Hurray! Now that I can officially walk unaided, I simply love walking around on my own especially when Mummy's too busy browsing around in the shops.
Here I am at Borders, checking out the books on display, while Mummy's making her choice. Point to note, the mess was NOT made by me! Me innocent! :) We are waiting for Papa to finish work and meet us here, so that we can all head for a nice dinner together!

What a tiring day shopping! I had fun while waiting for Aunty Betty to try out her stuff in the fitting rooms. I squealed and practiced my baby steps all over the lingerie dept.. heh heh.. charming all the salegirls and ladies who got in my way!

After dropping Aunty B off at her place, on the drive home, Mama suddenly pointed out to Mummy that they had completely forgotten to buy some choice cuts of meat and veg for my meals tomorrow!! So we gave Gonggong a quick phone call and picked him up to head to Giant to get the groceries! Thank goodness Giant opened till late on Saturdays!

Mummy had only this to say, "You're still up at this time?? All good babies should be tucked into bed by this time!!"

Inspite of my temperature, I continue to be my (ahem) sweet self by obliging Mummy's camera with a smile when she calls out to me. My latest cute-as-a-button smile is to squint my eyes quickly with upturned lips... kekeke! Sure, I might look a tad goofy, but it never fails to bring on smiles of amusement to the adults around. :)

Mummy's Home!

Every afternoon I wait for the tinkle of the phone...

This means that Mummy is on her way home from work! Gonggong will put the earpiece to my ear while Mummy tells me she'll be back soon. After she hangs up, we'll head downstairs to keep an eye out for Mummy's car turning into the carpark.

Yay! Mummy's home!! I'm so glad she's back, she must have had a tiring day at work, but no matter, because my smile will surely brighten up her day! Heh heh Heh!

Without fail, she'll always pick me up and ask me if I've been a good girl all day. And guess what? I'll always respond to Mummy with a kiss on her cheek.. mmmmuack!

Today is the first day of the rest of my life! My first taste of freedom! Mobility at last! Mummy tells me she's so proud of me. She enjoys cheering me on as I take my first few steps unaided, all by my clever self! I love bringing on the smiles to the faces of those around me... Mummy says I'm her walking Sunshine! Grrrrr... the long awaited appearance of my very 1st lateral incisor... It's giving me endless grief and I really gave Mummy a hard time this evening, after my nap. I simply refused to let her sit down. Everytime she so much as lowered her butt into a sitting position, I would protest in my loudest wail! Yeeeoooowww!! The only way I would be appeased was if she walked around, swaying me in her arms. Heh heh heh!! Can't Mummy see that I'm actually trying to help her save on gym membership fees by giving her muscular arms?

Toothy Babe - A New Beginning!

If you havent already guessed from my last post...

Yep! Mummy says I'm a BIG gurl now.. I've just sprouted my first tooth.
Refer to diagram below for the exact spot.

According to the tooth chart, it would seem that this visit from the tooth fairy is rather BELATED!! Hmmm.... She was supposed to pay me a visit about 6 months ago!! Talk about a busy schedule! Way overdue visit man!!

Mummy and Daddy were so excited that they kept cuddling me and telling me, "Arie, you're a big girl now! We're so proud of you!" Although I'm not too sure what all the fuss is about... hmmmm.... all I know is that it sure hurts when I run my tongue along my gums.. Ooooh!

Mummy even thinks there might be 2 teeth sprouting, side by side, but can't quite confirm 'cos everytime she sticks her finger into my mouth for a feel, or tries to pry my mouth open to take a look, I'll wriggle and squirm or stick my tongue out to push her away... heh hehe hee.. can't a baby get some privacy around here?

I started out the morning wallowing in all the Angpow wrappers I collected on my rounds the day before. I wonder if I'll collect even more today! If there's gonna be a whole lot more to add to my collection, I'd say, "Let's get Piggy with it!".

Not sure I quite understand what LoHei is all about. To me, it just looks like the adults are playing with the food. Tossing and throwing everything into the air. Half of the stuff didn't even land on the big dish Ah Ma laid out. They landed on the table instead! Adults sure do some really strange things!

Reunion Dinner at Ah Ma's

Did I mention that I finally got my push walker some time back and I'm thrilled to be able to stroll all over the house? Well, at least I've got some brand new tricks to show off to Ah Ma and the other relatives this coming CNY!

That's me attempting to stand up and start my stroll around the house, shortly after being let down from the highchair, while everyone else is tucking into the yummy steamboat which Ah Ma has prepared!

Okie, now, a dry run of the CNY visitations I'll be busy with tomorrow...
First, I wow Ah Ma with my walking prowess! Heh heh heh!

Spurred on by her colleagues, Mummy decided to get me a chingchong suit for the coming Chinese New Year! So right after work on Friday evening, Mummy promptly brought me down to Chinatown to take in the sights and try on some suits.
